How to submit to dmoz?
The Open Directory Project is a web directory of Internet resources. A web directory is something akin to a huge reference library. The directory is hierarchically arranged by subject - from broad to specific. The ODP is maintained by community editors who evaluate sites for inclusion in the directory. They are our experts, and all submissions are subject to editor evaluation.
So how do you get in?
It is not easy. Many people submit several times to the directory and still, their site does not get listed in DMOZ. We”ve seen many websites whom have just given up on getting listed in DMOZ, it is hard and takes a lot of time.
Anyone can submit to dmoz.org, it is a free submission, but if do not do it right, you could be waiting a very long time to get listed. Because the Open Directory is a human-edited database of categorized websites there is some confusion of the rules for successful submissions.
There are a few simple rules to follow that should help to submit your website properly to dmoz.org
1. Choose the right category
Begin your category search by searching for a few keywords that are relevant to your site. For instance use this search for keyword+site:dmoz.org in google.com and you will find some categories matching the website. \r\n\r\nAlso visit a number of sub-categories that might also apply to your website content. A submission to an actively edited category is more likely to be reviewed sooner than one to which no editor has been assigned.
2. Creating the Listing for the website
The Open Directory dmoz.org does not spider the content of submitted websites, search results and rankings are determined by the keywords located in the title, description and URL of your submission. Write a simple and powerful description that matches your site. Then carefully select a few keywords and create the title to the website without stuffing it with keywords.
3. Wait a while
If your site is not in the directory just wait a while and check the category, remember NOT to submit the site again, that will only slow down the process. At the bottom on every page there a date when last updated that particular page. If the page is updated and the site in still not listed that does not mean they rejected your site. Check resource-zone.com forums for regular questions about dmoz submissions.
