First IE7 security leak

October 20, 2006

With this first mayor update of the internet explorer since 2001 Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7, aka IE7, just a couple of days ago.

The first security leaks are already a fact, a internet securty company Secunia discovered this leak about the issues with Redirection Information Disclosure.

A vulnerability has been discovered in Internet Explorer, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the handling of redirections for URLs with the “mhtml:” URI handler. This can be exploited to access documents served from another web site.

There’s more information available and a security test from the website Secunia.

Just wait awhile to install the latest version of Internet Explorer 7 untill patches are available from Microsoft.
