Live Spaces from Microsoft

Microsoft has released an update of MSN Spaces, they call it now Windows Live Spaces. With its added functionalities and a improved integration with other MS Live services like Live Mail and Live Messenger, the company intends to take on social networking sites like MySpace.

Microsoft Live Space MSN Spaces had an estimated 123 million unique users, with roughly 3 million users visiting the site every second. Microsoft said that Windows Live Spaces works in sync with Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Contact List, Windows Live Mail and other services.

“Windows Live and Internet-based ad-funded software and service are critical to driving growth for the company, and we are energized about the continued investments we’re making to help provide consumers with a seamless and safer online experience,” said Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president of the Online Services Group at Microsoft.

To avoid criticism plaguing MySpace Microsoft said that for those under age 18, the default setting in their Windows Live Spaces profile is that only people in the user’s Windows Live Messenger contact list can gain access to his or her space.
